Lear Corp. will open a new auto seating plant in Iasi, Romania, specializing in cutting and sewing operations.

The plant will open in January and employ about 1,500 people, the Southfield, Mich.-based auto supplier said in a Nov. 19 news release.

Lear already has three plants in Romania focused on its electrical systems business. The new site will have seating surface materials and manufacturing for all major European automakers, the company said. Iasi already is a major textile center in Europe.
